The Nevada Community Foundation is the only community foundation in southern Nevada that meets all Council on Foundation standards of excellence.

What is a Community Foundation?

The Council on Foundations, the nation’s professional association of foundations, has outlined six characteristics of community foundations:

• Flexible, yet permanent collection of funds supported by a wide range of donors
• Relative independence to determine the best use of those funds to meet community needs
• Governing board of volunteers, knowledgeable about their community and recognized for their involvement in civic affairs
• Commitment to provide leadership on pervasive community problems
• Commitment to assist donors to identify and attain their philanthropic goals
• Adherence to a sense of “community” that overrides individual interests and concerns

Why invest in a community foundation?

There are many reasons to invest in your local community foundation. Community foundations go beyond simply making grants that advance charitable activities. They also identify current and emerging issues, channel resources to address their communities’ needs, and help their regions prepare for the future.

Mission and History

The Nevada Community Foundation was incorporated in the fall of 1988 as the first community foundation of Nevada.  The Foundation's first endowment was established through a significant contribution from Moe Dalitz to support human service needs.  Local appreciation for the Foundation's mission resulted in the establishment of additional endowed funds.

A selection of Nevada's most distinguished civic and business leaders make up the Board of Directors.  Collectively, they offer extensive knowledge of our region and experience in institutional management, law, finance, construction, and philanthropy.  Their strong leadership and dedication have maintained the Foundation's mission.

Over the past twenty-two years, the Foundation's assets have grown to more than $25 million.  We offer a variety of options to help donor accomplish their charitable objectives.  The Nevada Community Foundation  has touched many areas of community needs, including education, social services, health, arts & culture, and the environment.
