Building a Powerful Association of Community Investors
Mission Statement
The Nevada Women's Philanthropy (NWP) is a member driven, pooled fund, large impact grant making organization established to address the needs of the greater Las Vegas community. Our membership consists of philanthropically motivated women, united by a powerful desire to address emerging issues facing our community in the areas of arts, education, environment, social services, and health.
Purpose
The Nevada Women's Philanthropy's purpose is to:
- Unite, serve and empower women to become leaders in philanthropy;
- Enable contributors to have more direction and involvement in where their dollars are spent;
- Achieve greater donor impact by drawing on the aggregate financial and informational resources of our membership;
- Demonstrate the effect of how pooled donations can yield large scale, targeted grants;
- Enable innovative and compelling programs and projects that might otherwise not be possible;
- Research areas of need and strategically allocate funds to achieve the greatest impact;
- Address education, awareness and participation in philanthropy.
NWP is affiliated with the Nevada Community Foundation as a Donor Advised Fund. In doing so, the NWP operates under the umbrella of the Nevada Community Foundation and benefits from its expertise in capital fund investment, management, and grant services. In addition, the NWP receives most favorable tax treatment for member donations.
Membership
Members contribute $5,000 annually with pledge funds due by November of each year. Each member receives one grant making (1) vote.
Grant Making Process
The NWP conducts its grant making efforts through the Grant Screening Committee. Application for grant funding to the NWP is by invitation only. The NWP considers organizations in the areas of arts, education, environment, health and social services. These organizations may not be limited to women's causes, but are organizations that:
- Serve an urgent and critical need;
- Demonstrate unique solutions to time-worn problems;
- Engage in bold new ventures.
Other Opportunities for Member Involvement
Members are invited to address the cutting-edge issues in our community by attending NWP organized informational tours and educational forums that are held throughout the year. We will meet a variety of community leaders, engage in dialog, learn about philanthropy, and fully research our community's needs in order to educate ourselves as to where our pooled fund awards would make the greatest impact.
The NWP encourages members to participate in volunteer activities within the community. We believe that in giving your time in addition to your money, one can better understand the tremendous needs that our community faces. A mission of the NWP is to help each member achieve a more meaningful and personal philanthropic experience.
In addition to the very important work of the Grant Screening Committee, other member opportunities for involvement include membership in the Education Committee, Membership Committee and Marketing/Public Relations Committee. These vital committees help to further the goals of the NWP in terms of advancing its educational mission; building and maintaining a strong core of members; and publicizing the work of the NWP and its giving model.
