Begin Planning Your Legacy

Legacy Society

The Legacy Society honors those individuals and families that have chosen to include the Foundation in their estate plans or in a planned gift arrangement. Their generosity will not only benefit future generations but will also help build awareness of what is possible through charitable giving vehicles. Gifts received through an individual's planned giving instrument help build our endowment, assuring a strong and sustaining future for the community.

If you have included the Nevada Community Foundation in your estate plans, please let us know so that we may acknowledge and thank you.

Funding Guidelines

The Nevada Community Foundation utilizes this competitive granting process to help us strengthen our expertise and familiarity with the community as a whole. Typically, funding requests considered most favorably by our Distributions Committee are those that are particularly innovative and meet an as of yet, not sufficiently supported, critical community need. Grants awarded through this process typically average from $3,000 - $10,000.

The traditional grant process is made possible by the generosity of donors who have established unrestricted and field of interest funds at the Nevada Community Foundation.  In the fall of 2008, the Nevada Community Foundation expects to distribute more than $178,000 through the traditional grant process.   Of that amount:

  • Nearly $40,000 is allocated for organizations or projects that: promote humane care and treatment of animals;  provide spay/neuter, shelter, foster and adoption programs;  and administer educational and therapeutic programs for people that involve animals or are for the indirect benefit thereof.  (Toby Benedict Charitable Fund)
  • More than $22,000 is allocated for organizations or projects that: promote conservation of the natural world; protect animals and wildlife and their natural habitat; protect parks, reserves, and open spaces for animals; and contribute to wildlife research. (Franklin J. Koch Animal & Wildlife Charitable Fund)
  • More than $74,000 is allocated for organizations or projects that support math, science and technology programs for the benefit of the Clark County School District.  (Edwin E. Wiegand Fund)

Applications are given preference to the extent that they serve a wide segment of the southern Nevada community; assist people who are not being adequately served by existing resources; provide practical approaches for dealing with specific community challenges; show promise of leveraging additional support; and do not duplicate existing services or programs.

The Nevada Community Foundation utilizes this competitive granting process to help us strengthen our expertise and familiarity with the community as a whole.  Funding requests considered most favorably by our Distributions Committee are those that are particularly innovative and meet an as of yet, not sufficiently addressed, yet critical community need.

Please Note:

In the Traditional Grants Process, the Nevada Community Foundation will generally not consider proposals that advance any religious or political purpose or viewpoint; are for capital campaigns, annual campaigns, fundraising events, memberships or sponsorships; are from organizations that discriminate in their employment practices, volunteer opportunities, or delivery of programs and services on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, ancestry, age, medical condition, disability, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law. In addition, grants to individuals are typically not made through our competitive granting process.
